Mixed Reality pinball game combining digital elements with real world objects. Using a transparent monitor to overlay the digital world over the real 3d printed objects. Combines the familiar mechanical elements of real pinball, like the flippers and the plunger, with effects and features only possible in a virtual pinball, such particle effects and animations.
My Responsibility
Together with Kevin Walter I drafted the original concept of the idea.
As a programmer I was then in charge of the electronics and sensors driven by an Arduino board. These were used to combine the digital and physical elements of the game, like the plunger and the flippers.
The first step was to actually build the physical box with the transparent monitor and the sensors. Which was a lot of work, but also a lot of fun.
With the digital game running using Godot, I then experimented with head tracking and 3D effects to keep the player immersed in the game.
Arthur Kehrwald is keeping the project alive as he continues to work on this crazy idea.
